Dika + Nisa Wedding
Shot by Edward
Dika somehow has been one of my closest brothers in my extended family of Indonesia Mengajar. We met for the first time in the field facilitator’s home in Labuha, I remember vividly. He was this scrawny guy with a moustache, always with a cup of coffee in his hand.
Within a glance you can see that he’s a really smart guy, with a lot of leadership qualities. In the coming weeks I was with him in the field, those observations were proven to be true.
I also got to know Nisa, a fellow Pengajar Muda that Dika was dating. On one side she was this Missy Teacher That Stayed In Outer Villages To Teach Unpriviliged Children, but on the other side she was this contemporary cool woman with a very interesting character :)
They made a great couple together. Made for each other. We went on double dates with Francy and get to know them closely. What I love about this relationship is that we learn so much about each other cultures since we’re so different, in religion and ethnicity. So many new things we discovered together. Everytime we learn something new.
Anyways, me and Henry were honored to shoot them on that beautiful day. Since Dika and Nisa leave everything to us, we just shot whatever we wish, while enjoying the two of our best buds getting married.
There’s a special magic for these small weddings. Intimate gathering of the people that know each other. And the rituals, they just say so many things.
I also love how they finished the day. They left the party early, like the couples in the western hemisphere, leaving the guests at the party. When it was 1 PM sharp, we were all gathered in front of the dining hall to cheer them goodbye as they sped away with their tiny little red car.
It was so romantic :)
Congratulations Dika and Nisa. Adventure awaits.
