Central Java, a place where smile is not expensive
When I said that, I really mean it. Same goes with the food price there. A bowl of soto, or ‘javanese soup’ is only Rp. 7.000,- and a glass of orange juice is Rp. 2.000,-. Can’t find that price at Jakarta.
Smiles infact are the only the most visible part of an intimate bonding between two minds. And despite the fact that smiling is one of the most common things that we humans can do, smile is an attitude. Not because they don’t experience the crazy traffic and the hard life of Jakarta, but even when they have their own problems, they choose to smile to life.
People who lives near Merapi and lost all their belonging at 2010 eruption, people who earn 20.000 a day as becak driver to support their family, a mother with six months old baby who have to sell ronde or ‘javanese ginger ale’ since her beloved husband died thirteen months before. Those people choose to smile.
I’m honored to capture their sincere smiles, because they choose to smile to life.
